Logo and identity

Course: gdes 285 | Instructor: cate roman | spring 2021

This course is an intermediate studio in the design of logo and identity systems. Students will design marks for various businesses and organizations, as well as explore both contemporary

and historic corporate logos and their evolution. Emphasis is on the application of logotypes, and typographic issues in logo design, as well as style manuals and collateral applications.

~Child Park, International Garden. Translated into: Hadiqat El Tefl

~Located in neighboring Heliopolis, Nasr City is the largest district in Cairo.

~The park is about 2,924,000 Kilometer squared

~The purpose of having the garden is to have more green areas for the citizens of Nasr City and the neighboring cities for a cheaper price and affordable for everyone. (since parks in Egypt require a fee to get into).

~Since the budget cuts the fee of entering the park went from quarter pound, to 3 pounds, and now it is 5 pounds to enter the park.

~ The park has lovely paths, which is very great for running, where you can do a 1-1.5 kilometers loop. ~It is the only park in Egypt that still gets the treatment and the care from gardeners even though it went through major budget cuts over the years.

~The Child Park has a Children’s museum, a public library, and an international garden inside it. The park has a Children’s hospital, Welad and Banat (Boys and Girls) facility care center next to it.

~There is a Child museum, The Children’s Civilization and Creativity Center, located in the park, the museum was first established in 1986, when Hosni Mubarak was first in office. It got renovated in 1996, and again in 2012. The park opened in 1996 with the complete renovations of the Child museum by Suzzane Mubarak.

~The garden has a living displays, of birds, butterflies and fishes, and an outdoor area.

~ It is a large museum and cultural center covering 4,000 square meters.

~In May 2012 it won the UK’s Museum and Heritage International Award.

~It’s about 20 to 50 pounds to enter, depending on the exhibitions that will be seen. Classes have an extra cost.

~The museum is open every day except Friday from 9 am- 2 pm

~It was built by the Heliopolis Society for the benefit of all the children of Egypt. This work involved contributions from Egyptian and international museums and institutions.

~It was built to assist children and young adults to learn through hands on exhibits, inter-actives, computer games, and a spectacular dome show exhibit that takes the visitor through the history of science in Egypt. ~It gets about 400,000 children a year.

~It has a large cafeteria allows for the schools, family groups and visitors to refresh themselves and so stay for the whole day. Outdoor classroom spaces provide for creativity and musical activities, while the Cinema provides a 3D learning films, and conference facilities, as well as bookshop and learning materials supplies for the schools.

~It has about 2 million tourists that visit every year.

~ The Interior exhibition is divided into four, each on a separate floor connected by the central spiral staircase - the Time Stair - that provides a path from the roof to the basement. The four themes are;

~Where am I from? - explore the archaeology and history of Egypt, explores the pyramids, visits Tutankhamun’s tomb, and trains the visitor in mummy examination, modern excavation and underwater exploration in Alexandria

~Who am I? - discover the development of Egyptian civilisation along the Nile divided into the three seasons of flood, sowing and harvest.

~Why is Egypt like it is today? - examine the development of modern Egypt, in a panorama of Egyptian landscapes and their environmental issues, and how modern citizens can contribute today.

~What is the future of Egypt? - Looks at the history of science in Egypt, through both a static hands on exhibition that looks at stars, ships, astrolabes, telescopes, airplanes and space travel, and also an immersive 4D experience dome show, in which the pioneers of Egypt appear to tell the history of science and encourage visitors to participate in the future.

~The history of Indigenous Australians began at least 65,000 years ago when humans first populated the Australian continental landmasses. There are two types of people, the Aboriginal Australian and the Torres Strait Islander, two broadly defined groups which each include other sub-groups defined by language and culture.

~The cultural life of Sydney, Australia is dynamic and multicultural. Many of the individual cultures that make up the Sydney mosaic are centered on the cultural, artistic, ethnic, linguistic and religious communities formed by waves of immigration.

~Sydney is a major global city with a vibrant scene of musical, theatrical, visual, literary and other artistic activity. ~Many of the tourist attractions are scattered all over the city, the most famous and visited being the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

~Other attractions include the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Contemporary Art, White Rabbit Gallery and Sydney Tower.

~Kings Cross is known as the city’s red-light district.

~Sport is an important part of the culture in Sydney. New South Wales has attracted many international multi-sport events including the 2000 Summer Olympics, held in Sydney.

~More than 1,600 performances are held each year at the Opera House, including ballet and contemporary dance, opera, classical music, stage plays and more.

~Bangarra is an internationally acclaimed Aboriginal dance company, which brings stories of the Dreamtime to vivid life on stage.

~Aboriginal Australians the oldest population of humans living outside Africa.

~Koomurri is a unique dance troupe from all nations of Australia taken from the Aboriginal Australians culture many years ago. Koomurri was created in the late-1990s, represented those from the East Coast of Australia. However as the organization has grown, so have their troupe numbers who are now made up of groups from across all of Australia.

~There are only 47,000 full-blooded Aborigines left in Australia.

~“SYDNEY IS ONE OF THE MOST VISUALLY STUNNING CITIES IN THE WORLD. BUT IT’S THE EVERYDAY THINGS AND GENERAL LIFESTYLE OF THE LOCALS THAT MAKE IT SPECIAL TOO.”

~Curtis Stone, Australian chef, author and TV personality.

~Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, held in Olympia, Greece from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.

~To respect the ancient origins of the Olympic Games, which were held every four years at Olympia. The four-year interval between the Ancient Games editions was named an “Olympiad”, and was used for dating purposes at the time: time was counted in Olympiads rather than years.

 

~The ancient Games included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian events.

~The Olympic rings expresses the activity of the Olympic Movement and represents the union of the 5 continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games.

~The flame was lit using the rays of the sun, to ensure its purity, and a skaphia, the ancestor of the parabolic mirror used today for lighting the Olympic flame. A flame burned permanently on the altar of the goddess Hestia, and such fires were also lit on the altars of Zeus and Hera, in front of whose temple the Olympic flame is lit today.

~At the first Olympic torch relay, the flame was transported from Olympia to Berlin over 3,187 kilometres by 3,331 runners in twelve days and eleven nights at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

~ SUR opened in 1998.

~SUR is owned by two couples, a team of four friends who enjoy taking care of the restaurant from day to day.

~Guillermo Zapata, Argentinian manager of some of the finest restaurants of Los Angeles, ran SUR for 10 years. The handsome, friendly owner met Nathalie, his French wife, in the restaurant in 2001.

 

~In 2005, Guillermo and Nathalie joined forces with Lisa Vanderpump Todd and Ken Todd, a British couple who own 10 restaurants and bars in London, all designed by Lisa. This combination of international expertise has led to a restaurant that is on the cutting edge of style and cuisine, a fresh take on exquisite South-European dining. Since 2011, SUR has been featured in the Bravo series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. And now, for the 4th season, the dock-series Vanderpump Rules from Bravo follow Lisa Vanderpump, as she oversees Jax, Katie, Sheanna, Stassi, Kristen and Tom and the rest of the red-hot staff at her sexy West Hollywood restaurant and Lounge, SUR.

~SUR stands for Sexy Unique Restaurant.
